Our Final Newsletter of the Year 🎄

As we come to the end of another year, we can honestly say, what a fabulous year it has been at Sustain!

Our regular Tenant Engagement Workshops and much-loved Friends of Sustain Coffee Mornings have been the driving force behind a truly successful year. Your voices have been heard, and more importantly, we’ve acted on what you told us. You asked, and we did.

Thank you to every tenant who has taken part, shared ideas, and made valuable contributions throughout 2025. Your involvement continues to shape the services we deliver, and we couldn’t do it without you.

We’re already raring to go and excited to keep up the momentum into 2026, which we’re determined will be even better! Diary dates for upcoming events and coffee mornings in 2026 are listed at the end of this newsletter, so please make a note and pop them in your diaries. We look forward to seeing you on 14 January 2026. Feel free to bring a housemate along too!

Here’s a little update on what’s been happening at Sustain since we last checked in.

In Loving Memory 💐

It is with great sadness that we share the sudden passing of one of our cherished Friends of Sustain, Noreen Akhtar.

Noreen was a valued and much-loved friend who regularly attended our coffee mornings and always made thoughtful and useful contributions. She was warm, energetic, and welcoming, and her presence will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Noreen’s family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

✨ Spotlight Feature ✨

The Party Season Kicked Off with a Bang! 🎉

On 15 December, we hosted our annual Christmas Party, welcoming over 80 tenants and support workers — and what a wonderful celebration it was!

Guests enjoyed a traditional Christmas dinner complete with all the trimmings, followed by plenty of laughter and festive fun. Our tenants took part in several lively games of Irish Bingo, with many prizes won throughout the afternoon.

And of course, the highlight of the day, Santa himself, paid us a visit! 🎅 He handed out gifts including traditional selection boxes, along with some very practical (and popular!) presents requested by tenants, such as vegetable seeds, so they can grow their own produce at home.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped kick off the festive season in such great spirits.

Join The 'Moving On' Course

The Moving On course helps people who live in supported housing get ready for work and find a place to live. Many people want to move on but feel unsure about money, work, and housing. This course gives clear support to help with those steps.

The course runs for six weeks in Birmingham city centre and includes extra support after it ends. The aim is simple. To help people move into work and build a stable future.
